Key Responsibilities 

  • Establish relationships with residents and gather input about desired activities.
  • Explain nature of DHA programs, procedures and services to residents.
  • Conduct, monitor and coordinate activities in conjunction with the resident council that create a sense of community and serve residents’ needs.
  • Create monthly activity calendars and newsletters to promote activities.
  • Facilitate monthly resident meetings, crime watch meetings and service provider meetings.
  • Establish working relationships with social service and other community-based agencies to provide resources to the residents.
  • Promote the awareness of these programs and services.
  • Maintain files of the programs/services offered, including contact information for the agencies.
  • Track referrals made to the various agencies.
  • Perform assessments to determine the needs of residents for self-sufficiency and economic independence.
  • Based on assessments, refer residents to appropriate community resources.
  • Track and monitor community service activity for those residents that are required to perform community service.
  • Work closely with the property managers to ensure that the proper services and programs are present on the property.
  • Accompany the manager(s) on annual housekeeping inspections and conduct a housekeeping course for referred residents.
  • Perform minor property management functions as needed.
  • Report unsafe conditions and/or any type of abuse/neglect to the appropriate staff, social service agency, and/or law enforcement.

 

Knowledge and Skills for Success

A successful resident services coordinator has…

  • Understanding of DHA organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community programs and services.
  • Skill in assessing individual needs.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Skill in establishing relationships with community service providers.
  • Knowledge of the principles of records management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavior Science, Social Services or a related field
  • Two (2) years of community resources experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
