JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Chief of Security, the Security Specialist is responsible for providing security of offenders at the assigned center, documenting records and reports, assist in daily maintenance and janitorial duties for the upkeep of the facility and performing other related duties as assigned. The Security Specialist must be able to work part-time, as scheduled, including nights, weekends and holidays.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides quality security to the offenders of the Residential Reentry Center Services.
2. Monitors and enforce facility rules by ensuring that inmates are complying with Federal Bureau of Prisons standards.
3. Monitors offenders’ accountability log sheets.
4. Conduct and participate in fire drill.
5. Process documentation, records and reports, as instructed and directed.
6. Write reports of daily activities of incidents and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
7. Patrol RRC premises to preserve order and protect property, prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates. Monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and sally ports.
8. Attends scheduled monthly staff and security meetings.
9. Respond to all emergency alarms and disturbances.
10. Monitors and authorize entrance and departure of clients, employees, visitors, and other persons and maintain security of premises. Maintains safe and secure environment for clients, employees and visitors.
11. Observe and collect urine samples
12. Answer telephone calls to take messages, and provide only authorized information during non-business and business hours.
13. Attends all mandatory training within the annual established timeframe.
14. Attend scheduled monthly staff and security meetings.
15. Collect and process subsistence payment from offenders.
16. Executes other duties as assigned

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)
• Attends quarterly training
• Participates in ACA and PREA audits.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

This position requires the incumbent to have completed at least one year of education beyond high school or have a high school diploma with two years of related experience. Must be able to function with minimal
on site supervision, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to function as part of a team. Must be able to utilize computer keyboard and demonstrate basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook.

This position requires the incumbent to have superb oral and concise, professional written communication skills, along with exceptional organizational skills and an ability to prioritize multiple tasks concurrently. The person should be capable of generating correspondence and spreadsheets using computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must possess polished and diplomatic customer relation skills verbally, in person and through telephone communications, and in writing

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age or older at the time the offer of employment is made.
• May have to work outside of normal working hours.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a registered and insured vehicle.
• Must be able to pass all required compliance checks and criminal history investigation, including Bureau of Prison NCIC/NLETS.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment

This position may require incumbent to engage in overnight travel up to 5% of time as well as local travel in and around the community appropriate to the performance of duties and responsibilities. As such, incumbent must have:
• Current driver’s license issued by state of residence
• Current Vehicle Inspection decal
• Current vehicle insurance
• Current vehicle registration in state of residence
• Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is primarily performed in a normal office environment generally while seated at a desk. Dexterity is required to performing work with personal computer keyboard, calculator and other office equipment. The employee may be required to stand, bend, lift and stoop in performing work.
