Summary
Haymarket Park is home to the University of Nebraska baseball/softball programs, and Lincoln Saltdogs Independent Minor League baseball team. Playing surfaces are sand based, Kentucky bluegrass, with a state of the art SubAir system. Fully renovated in fall 2022.
Turf management interns will assist the Athletic Turf Manager in the daily maintenance of Hawks Field, Bowlin Stadium, and surrounding landscape.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Mowing
- Edging
- Aerifying
- Granular fertilizer applications
- Pesticide applications
- Maintenance of clay surfaces
- Maintenance of warning track
- Irrigation maintenance and repair
Desired Skills/Abilities:
- Able to operate necessary turf equipment
- Learn and assist with the maintenance of the entire facility in accordance with set standards
- Must be able to meet the business commitment and hours required of the job during the baseball season, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Time Commitment:
Internship can begin as early as February and run through October.
It is preferred, but NOT REQUIRED, that applicants be available for the entire internship period.
Compensation:
$700.00 weekly
Employment Requirements:
- Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a 2 or 4 year turf program
- Pre-employment Drug and Back Screening
- Pre-employment Background Check
- Ability to complete the I-9 requirements to work in the US
- Wear proper PPE to perform the job
- Ability to meet the hours and business commitment required of the job
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Commitment of Employer:
The Employer will assign a specific Supervisor to work directly with the intern to achieve the goals of the internship by assigning appropriate work duties.
Condition of Employment
Candidate is required to meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference & background checks, and post offer drug/alcohol testing with fit for employment screening (if required) are conditions of employment.
