Job purpose

Northern Improvement Bismarck is looking for skilled operators with experience in excavators, dozers, and/or blades. The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. This posting is for the 2024 construction season with an anticipated start from mid-April to early May.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Skilled operation of excavators, dozers, and/or blades
  • Operate various other pieces of construction equipment used in earth-moving operations (ex. Scraper, Articulated off-road-trucks, compactors, etc.)
  • Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
  • Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill, and clean equipment as necessary
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating, and stockpiling
  • Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
  • Report the need for large repairs to the appropriate parties
  • All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of operating construction equipment
  • Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is a plus
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

  • Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
  • Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
  • May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week

Physical requirements

  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
  • Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
