Cohen Milstein is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney for the Employee Benefits Practice group in our Washington, D.C. office. The Employee Benefits Group is recognized for its expertise in complex litigation challenging the mismanagement of employee retirement plans, such as 401(k) plans, pension plans, and employee stock ownership plans. Our clients include retirement plans and individuals. We represent them in claims alleging breaches of fiduciary duty, unlawful self-dealing, and violations of ERISA’s non-forfeiture and actuarial equivalence requirements. We were named “Practice Group of the Year – Benefits” by Law360 for the years 2022, 2021, and 2019, and a “Top Ranked Firm – Band 1” in ERISA Litigation by Chambers USA for the years 2022 and 2023. Responsibilities:

  • Perform factual research for existing cases and for investigations.
  • Manage client relationships throughout all stages of litigation.
  • Legal research.
  • Draft pleadings and briefs as needed.
  • Track and provide periodic summaries of the class action developments.
  • Manage issues related to electronically stored information (ESI).
  • Assist with deposition and trial preparation.
  • Assist with document review and other discovery tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Active member of the D.C. bar.
  • Litigation experience.
  • Financial experience a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required to handle large volumes. of documents and work associated with each case.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytic skills to synthesize large amounts of information into accurate summaries.

We offer a comprehensive benefits and compensation package. The expected annual salary range (excluding bonus) for this position is between $110,000 and $120,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors.
