2024 Summer Estimator/Project Manager Internship
Job Summary
The Intern will rotate throughout each division of company learning hands on how the business works. i.e. safety, QCQA, plants, road crews, trucking, estimating, & project management
The estimator intern will learn how to develop cost estimates on routine projects under direct supervision for construction as required by clients’ documents. The construction project manager intern will learn skills on how to be responsible for representing the company with clients and consultants on virtually any range of subjects related to construction and for making decisions on behalf of the company.

- First few weeks of the internship will rotate throughout each division of company learning hands on how the business works. i.e. safety, QCQA, plants, road crews, trucking, estimating, & project management
- Estimating
- Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
- Executes take-offs of construction documents.
- Inputs take-offs into a computer spreadsheet.
- Obtains pricing for materials.
- Obtains bids from subcontractors.
- Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
- Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
- Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Attends departmental meetings as required.
- Photocopies documents and plans.
- Project Management
- Assists in directing team members (employees and consultants) at all levels of contract administration.
- Controls any number of projects at various stages of work. Reviews records of accounts and inputs entries into to proper accounts.
- Consults with clients to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structure or renovation, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs and construction time.
- Plans layouts of projects and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
- Checks a set of drawings and prepares feedback for staff.
- Details any type of project. Prepares scale drawings and contract documents for project contractors.
- Represents clients in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts.
- Administers construction contracts and conducts periodic onsite observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans.
- Prepares studies and reports.
- Prepares project designs and plans using computer assisted design software and equipment.
- Assist in directing activities of workers engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents.

No supervisory responsibilities as an intern.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
Travel
The employee will travel to local project sites that are within 60 miles of the main office or when responsible for activities at two or more sites.
Required Education and Experience
- Junior year of college at minimum in obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
