Position Overview:
The Construction Equipment Sales Representative is responsible for driving equipment sales and building strong client relationships within the Northwest LA and South Bay areas. This role is crucial to expanding Coastline Equipment’s market presence, delivering tailored machinery solutions, and maintaining our reputation for excellent customer service. Based in our Long Beach, CA location, the Sales Representative will work directly with clients to understand their equipment needs, provide demonstrations, and facilitate the purchase of new and used construction machinery, contributing significantly to the company’s growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Representation: Represent Coastline Equipment in the sale of machinery to customers within the defined sales area, delivering outstanding service and support.
  • Product Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of features, benefits, and applications of all equipment sold by the dealership to effectively inform and educate clients.
  • Competitive Awareness: Monitor competitive activity and product offerings, providing timely feedback to management to inform strategic decisions.
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM): Maintain accurate and current customer information within the assigned territory for effective sales management and follow-up.
  • Sales Process Management: Follow a defined sales process to ensure a consistent, customer-focused approach to equipment sales, from initial contact to closing deals.
  • Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance: Keep assigned company vehicles and equipment in good condition, adhering to maintenance schedules to ensure reliability and professionalism.
  • Customer Events & Demonstrations: Assist with the preparation and execution of customer events and conduct field demonstrations of new equipment to showcase capabilities and build client trust.
  • Market Insights: Monitor trends in customers' business activities and provide timely communication to management to anticipate market needs and adjust sales strategies accordingly.
  • Financing Assistance: Maintain current knowledge of financing options to support customers in securing equipment purchases, facilitating smooth transactions.
  • Training & Development: Attend relevant sales training events and seminars to enhance sales capabilities and product knowledge, ensuring continuous professional growth.
  • Trade Evaluation: Stay informed on used equipment values to accurately assess trade-in opportunities, providing clients with fair and competitive offers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; additional education in business, sales, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of sales experience within the construction industry, preferably in heavy equipment sales.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of construction equipment and related operational practices, with the ability to understand and address client needs effectively.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in standard desktop applications, including Microsoft Office and internet functions, for managing sales activities and customer information.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work varied hours to meet client needs, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and trust-building.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills for interpreting sales reports and trends, enabling data-driven decision-making and strategy adjustments.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred, enhancing communication with a diverse client base.

Preferred Experience:

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in a heavy equipment dealership or rental company, providing a strong foundation in equipment sales and customer service.
  • Certifications: Industry-recognized certifications in sales or equipment knowledge, such as Certified Equipment Sales Professional (CESP).
  • CRM Proficiency: Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software specific to the heavy equipment industry.
  • Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and best practices in equipment handling and sales environments.
  • Digital Tools: Experience with digital sales tools and virtual demonstration platforms to enhance client engagement and sales processes.

Work Environment:

  • Location: This role is primarily office-based at our Long Beach, CA location, with regular visits to client sites within the Northwest LA and South Bay areas.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other company locations or industry events may be required to support sales activities and relationship-building efforts.
  • Work Setting: The Sales Representative will work in a professional office setting, with access to company vehicles for client visits and equipment demonstrations.

  • Reports To: Sales Manager
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborates closely with other Sales Representatives, Service Technicians, and the Parts Department to ensure a seamless customer experience and achieve sales targets.

  • Pay Range: Base salary plus commission, commensurate with experience and performance.
