MDS Manufacturing in Parkston, SD is seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Manager to lead our HR department and support our team in achieving our strategic objectives. 

Position Purpose:  Provide professional knowledge and leadership in the administration and support of the company’s human resource needs including staffing, benefit administration, team member relations and policy, training and development, payroll, and regulatory compliance, etc.  This position will be responsible for overseeing, developing, and enforcing HR policies for the entire company. This position will also provide assistance to the accounting group.

Essential Duties:

  1. Talent Management Planning, Recruitment and Retention
    1. Plans for, organizes, and implements programs for team member recruitment, retention, and promotion.
    2. Determines the company’s needs from a human resource perspective to achieve its goals and strategies for implementation. 
    3. Designs and implements effective “onboarding” programs to increase retention.
    4. Establishes programs for and supports career planning; assists in developing succession plans and promotional programs.
  2. Benefit Administration
    1. Administers employee benefit programs.
    2. Research providers and programs to optimize employee benefits and costs.
    3. Communicates programs and value of benefits to team members.
    4. Monitor state and federal legislation affecting employer-sponsored benefits and ensures compliance with all federal and state programs.
  3. Employee Relations and Policy
    1. Serves as an advocate for team members.
    2. Develops and implements policies and programs that create a positive culture.
    3. Functions as a resource to management for advice on employee and policy issues.
    4. Establishes and communicates recommendations for counseling, disciplining, and terminating team members.
    5. Conducts exit interviews and makes recommendations to management. 
  4. Training
    1. Provides information, tools, and coordinates training to all team members.
    2. Provides management training on employment law compliance, employer liability avoidance, interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance reviews, safety, and sexual harassment, etc.
  5. Compensation and Rewards
    1. Administers payroll function for company.
    2. Develops and implements an evaluation system that assesses individual performance, growth, and contribution to the company; ensures that the program is functioning properly and achieving the desired results.
    3. Coordinates with senior management to develop a comprehensive compensation program that ensures compliance with wage and hour laws. 
    4. Maintains information on compensation in the profession and develops and implements competitive salary structures. 

        6. Compliance

    1. Administers FMLA and Worker’s compensation programs.  Maintains appropriate records including those for Safety/OSHA programs.
    2. Functions as a regulatory expert and takes proactive steps to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.  Provides advice on request.
    3. Maintains accurate, up-to-date team member records that are compliant with relevant federal, state, and local laws.
    4. Maintains team member handbook and creates and communicates policies as necessary, with the agreement of senior management.

  2. 7. Management Advisory
    1. Functions as a resource for personnel programs, policies, team member relations, and staff activities throughout the organization.
    2. Develops company-wide policies and programs in support of company values and goals

8. Other Duties:

    1. Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with customers, vendors, and co-workers through effective oral and written communication skills.
    2. Participates in company meetings, initiatives, and marketing efforts as appropriate.
    3. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Psychology, Business or related fields. Minimum 5 years of overall experience in Human Resources with some experience at a senior level preferred.  SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred, but not required.  Experience with payroll and benefit administration.

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows environment including Excel, Word, and Outlook.  Also required to learn and utilize the company’s ERP software.
