The McCook County Register of Deeds’ office is looking for a Full-Time Deputy Register of Deeds. The Deputy Register of Deeds assists the Register of Deeds in most phases of departmental operations for the McCook County Register of Deeds Office.

As a Deputy Register of Deeds, you will perform a variety of duties including:

  • Assist with recording information on real estate documents, review of subdivision matters and legal descriptions, indexing of land records, and data entry of recorded.
  • Assists with review, acceptance, and processing of incoming documents for recording.
  • Work with title companies, land surveyors, businesses and various South Dakota state agencies regarding platting issues and related matters of land development, title transfers, easement, and access issues.
  • Assist the register of deeds in various duties including daily balancing and reconciliation of fees collected from real estate transactions, document recording fees and vital record fees. Process statements to accounts receivable. Collect receipts, deposit fees, post to the ledger, update spreadsheets and perform daily maintenance on multiple computer.
  • Issue vital records and review documents for accuracy and legal recordability.
  • Provide filing information on documents and establish legal descriptions to an electronic index.

 To be qualified for this position, you will need:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of land legal descriptions and the ability to acquire a working knowledge of the chain of title of real estate.
  • Must have knowledge of general office methods, equipment and computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office products and other technology as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, either orally or in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

This is a Full-Time (35 hours per week), non-exempt position with a starting wage of $18.56/hour, depending on experience. Work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.
