Product Designer – Job Description

Description:

The Product Designer role is responsible for providing mechanical or electromechanical designs for new or existing products within the business segment using 3D solid modeling tools and analysis.  Activities will contribute to the design, development, and definition of products, parts & tooling, component solutions, and/or system solutions and may be performed independently or in conjunction with responsible Engineers.  The Designer/Drafting role will also provide design solutions that meet standards of reliability, performance, cost, serviceability and program delivery targets. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D drawings, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and/or inspection. 
  • Work with Engineers to capture design intent and produce concepts and designs that encompass all product requirements for both new or existing products.
  • Communicates with direct team and supervisor on projects and updates on activities, achievements, research, and project status. 
  • Lead and participate in program meetings and design reviews as required.
  • Apply GD&T and established design standards to produce highly accurate models, drawings, bill of materials, and related product specifications to allow successful product release and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Iterate on models and analysis through experimentation and prototype processes to define all aspects of the model properties to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, CAD Modeling/Drafting, or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated ability to design conceptual models by using computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software, as well as being able to perform design analysis
  • Experience and Proficiency with Mechanical CAD software (Creo/Pro-E, Solidworks, etc.).
  • 5 or more years of relevant design experience
