Lead Waste Water Plant Operator

Full-time - Non-Exempt

 Pay Range: $21.84 - $26.22 DOQ

 

Operates and supervises operation of City’s wastewater treatment plants. Reports to the Chief Operator or Utility Manager if Chief Operator is unavailable. 

 

Essential Duties

  1. Plans, organizes and implements activities and special projects in their assigned plant(s).
  2. Supervises and guides work of plant personnel.
  3. Supervises and coordinates ongoing training of plant personnel.
  4. Monitors and inspects work in progress.
  5. Inspects, calibrates and interprets gauges, meters and control panels.
  6. Performs tests; makes adjustments to chlorinators.
  7. Modifies or adjusts work methods, assignments and crew sizes.
  8. Sets the prototype employee work example to promote a congenial and productive work environment.
  9. Assists with initial evaluation of employees under Chief Operator’s direction to provide documents and coordination of any positive reinforcement or discipline actions as required by City Policy.
  10. Reads and interprets diagrams, sketches and blue prints.
  11. Determines need for equipment repairs and supervises repairs.
  12. Answers complaints from the public.
  13. Keeps facility in permit compliance and responds to regulatory agency inquiries.
  14. Supervises regulatory compliance of plant operations.
  15. Assists and cooperates with contractors and other municipal departments.
  16. Orders plant supplies and equipment.
  17. Supervises and maintains sampling protocols.
  18. Prepares, collects, organizes and analyzes data for departmental and regulatory agency reports.
  19. Coordinate draft and submittal of regulatory agency reports (MORs, CCRs, & DMRs) under the Chief Operator’s supervision.
  20. Responds to emergency operation of treatment facilities.
  21. Makes recommendations on repair and maintenance work.
  22. May drive and operate departmental equipment.
  23. Works on-call on a rotation basis on weekends, nights, holidays and emergencies.
  24. Cleans trucks, warehouse and storage yard. Maintain properties as needed: mowing, trimming, painting, irrigation, minor repairs, etc.
  25. Performs related functions as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in wastewater plant operations is required.
  • Must have Florida Class B Wastewater Operator license or the ability to obtain a Class B License within 6 months of eligible FDEP minimum “B” qualifying training requirements.
  • CDL Class “B” preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • A comparable amount of education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
