Purpose:

  • Under general direction for the company's Safety Director, this position develops, administers, and implements project wide occupational safety programs, or serves as coordinator for occupational safety programs within one or more projects. Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in special training programs, evaluations or investigations
  • Provide direction and/or guidance to company personnel
  • Provide training to managers and others on occupational health and safety issues

Responsibilities Include – Daily Activities & Duties:

  • Coordinate the activities of other occupational safety personnel within one or more projects if appropriate
  • Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs
  • Provide guidance to field personnel with safety briefings
  • Provide advice, and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions
  • Write safety standards for electrical utility departments in compliance with industry standards and Federal, State, and Local regulations
  • Develop and enforce safety standards to conform to industry standards and federal, state and local regulations
  • Develop and implement complex safety programs by inspecting or reviewing areas, equipment, processes, and work activities for hazardous conditions in electrical utility area
  • Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups. Including evaluation and modification of programs to meet client, local, state, and federal OSHA requirements
  • Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments
  • Direct and review the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs
  • Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place
  • Advise for improvements in tracking and reporting procedures
  • Lead and/or participate on teams with safety, technical, management, and other team members

Physical Requirements:

  • The individual must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.  This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done
  • Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting into and out of equipment through the use of vertical mounted ladders up to and including 10’ or more in height
  • Visually seeing equipment operations well (either naturally or with corrective lenses)
  • Standing, stooping kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work
  • Working at elevated heights
  • Lifting 50 lb. objects as required
  • Carrying 50 lb. objects as required
  • Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure to sometimes adverse weather conditions
  • Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all-weather conditions
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments and holidays as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances governing Occupational Safety
  • Knowledge of designated safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of specialized technical knowledge related to servicing area
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in investigative analysis
  • Skill in oral presentations and training
  • Skill in handling conflict situations

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety-related study

Experience:

  • 7+ Years of Safety related experience; however, candidates with a combination of safety specific education and some safety experience will be considered
  • Well Service/Drilling related experience is preferred

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Certified Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent preferred
  • MSHA Part 48 preferred
  • MSHA Part 77 preferred
  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 certification preferred

Travel:

  • Travel is required
