Job overview

 

As a Concrete Field Operations Manager at CL Construction, you will be responsible for overseeing team performance, implementing safety initiatives, enhancing operational quality through continuous improvement, and developing a high performing work force.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the overall direction and performance of the CL Construction Concrete Operations Team, including Superintendents, Foremen, and Craft. 
  • Responsible for the ongoing improvement of the Safety Performance of the Operations Team, by first and foremost being a role model of the expected safety practices and behaviors 
  • Enhance the Quality of the Operations team through ongoing improvement initiatives. 
  • Help lead the Concrete Operations team in a lean transformation maximizing value creation for the customer and building a culture of continuous improvement in safety, quality and productivity while keeping the mission of providing for families at the core. 
  • Develop, maintain and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to address issues and to achieve operational targets and objectives. 
  • Ensure effective scheduling and communication with crews for projects, aligning crew assignments with project mix, skill levels, and customer requirements. 
  • Collaborate with Project Management team in preparing and updating schedules to meet updated and changing needs of the construction project  
  • Build and develop a high-performing operations team by providing coaching, mentoring, and training to enhance individual and collective skills. 
  • Responsible for leading the hiring, development, and performance management of Operations Team. 
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve a crew structure that enables a functional chain of command, accountability and ongoing performance improvement, while providing the flexibility and agility to meet the needs of the business. 
  • Lead development of a skills/training matrix for Superintendents, Foremen and Craft and subsequent mentorship program for the effective onboarding and ongoing development of Operations Team Members. 
  • Lead the operations team in the utilization of CL Construction’s progressive discipline process that respects the dignity of the individual while outlining clear behavioral expectations required 
  • Lead and Mentor Superintendents to meet project safety, quality, productivity and schedule requirements. 
  • Collaborate with Logistics and Shop for coordination and scheduling of equipment, crew transportation, materials and other items needed for successful project completion 
  • Partner with Logistics and shop in the ownership and management of concrete crew vehicles, trailers, tools and equipment. 
  • Travel to jobsites regularly (including overnight) for critical project events, issue resolution and as needed to meet objectives of the role. Travel approximately 50% of the time. Perform other needed job tasks as required 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • B.S. Construction Management/Construction Engineering preferred 
  • 7+ years of operations experience in the concrete construction industry preferred 
  • 5+ years of applicable leadership/management experience preferred 
  • Must value and demonstrate honesty, integrity, and respect for others. 
  • Must be self-disciplined and lead by example. 
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement.  
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams and developing individual employees required. 
  • Excellent communication with team members, subcontractors/vendors, and customers required. 
  • Must have a high emotional intelligence with the ability to manage conflict and problem-solve complex issues in a fast paced, high stress environment 
  • Must have proven ability to lead, motivate, direct and develop people as they work, identifying the strengths of each person and placing her/him in a position to perform at her/his best. 
  • Must have proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, while helping lead the team to deliver on schedule and budget commitments. 
  • Must be proficient in reading construction plans and specifications 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Fluent in English required, bilingual in Spanish preferred. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
