INDUSTRIAL PROJECT ENGINEER

An entry-level position in the project management career path.  Responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting in project management tasks as assigned by the project management staff
  2. Developing skills and progressively take on more responsibility

This position would work in various McGough industrial sectors, which include Agriculture (Biofuels, Oilseed), Power & Infrastructure, Pharma, Life Sciences and Tech.

Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Construction Management or related degree
  • Internship, education or field experience

Office and Travel:

Office: Corporate office and various jobsites as needed.

Travel: Flexibility for travel is desirable with ability to temporarily relocate or regularly travel to project sites in the Upper Midwest region

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Pursuit, Preconstruction and Business Development

  1. Assist pursuit team in understanding prospective projects and requirements
  2. Participate in QA/AC page turn sessions

McGough Self-Performed Work

  1. Understand self-perform capabilities
  2. Understand warehouse equipment, rentals, small tools and services

Estimating and Bidding

  1. Perform quantity take-offs
  2. Assist project team in soliciting and reviewing subcontract bids
  3. Assist in performing trade scope reviews

Scheduling

  1. Assist superintendent and project manager with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
  2. Learn and understand Last Planner system
  3. Participate in daily/weekly work planning

Project Documentation

  1. Review all drawings and specifications
  2. Upload/Download electronic documents and create shortcuts
  3. Draft and process Requests for information (RFI)
  4. Review and process shop drawings/submittals
  5. Participate in BIM coordination meetings
  6. Assist in obtaining any LEED documentation

Subcontract Management

  1. Assist project team in reviewing and processing subcontractor change requests
  2. Assist project team in reviewing subcontractor invoices

Cost Control

  1. Understand change document types and appropriate uses (CCDs, PRs, ASIs, etc.)
  2. Assist superintendent in tracking labor costs
  3. Assist superintendent with material procurement and cost coding
  4. Collect and report cost history data as directed

Project Meetings

  1. Attend all project and company safety meetings
  2. Attend foremen's meetings and draft meeting minutes
  3. Attend construction coordination meetings and draft meeting minutes
  4. Participate in start-up meetings
  5. Participate in Project Assessment meetings

Post-Construction

  1. Participate in punchlist process and monitor progress
  2. Assist superintendent and project manager in preparing final as-built plans and documentation

Other Responsibilities

  1. Participate in company business development activities (client functions, design firm open houses, conferences, etc.)
  2. Establish relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants and subcontractors
  3. Attend and participate in project management and other company meetings
  4. Attend any training - personal and/or professional development - that is relevant to the position
  5. Attend company-sponsored events
  6. Support and follow standard of work
  7. Participate in Lean events and support of the McGough way

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee’s workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
