Position Overview:
The Estimator, Industrial Construction plays a critical role in driving project success by preparing detailed cost estimates and analyzing project specifications for industrial construction projects. This position requires a deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and labor requirements, coupled with strong analytical skills to ensure competitive and accurate bidding. The Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and vendors to develop cost-effective proposals that align with Total-Western’s commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed estimates for industrial construction projects by reviewing plans, specifications, and vendor quotes. Develop comprehensive cost models covering materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
- Bid Preparation: Assist in the preparation and submission of competitive bids and proposals, ensuring alignment with project requirements and Total-Western’s standards.
- Data Analysis: Analyze historical cost data and current market trends to forecast project costs accurately and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather project information, clarify scope, and adjust estimates as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all estimates, assumptions, and vendor communications for internal review and audit purposes.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify process improvement opportunities within the estimation department to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Reporting: Prepare regular reports on bid status, estimated vs. actual costs, and project profitability for senior management review.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in industrial or EPCOM projects.
- Strong proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality standards.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in industrial construction sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemical, or renewable energy.
- Familiarity with ASME codes and construction industry best practices.
- Professional certifications in estimating or project management (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, PMP) are a plus.
- Experience with cost control and project management software.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits to gather project data and verify estimates.
- Collaborative and fast-paced work environment that may require coordination across multiple locations.
- Regular interaction with project teams and vendors, requiring adherence to safety and professional standards.
Reporting Structure:
The Estimator, Industrial Construction reports directly to the Senior Estimator or Project Manager, working in close collaboration with the project management and engineering teams to ensure accurate and competitive bidding.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
