Plant Maintenance and Telemetry Technician
Full-time – Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $19.36/hr - $23.24/hr. (DOQ)
This is skilled work in the maintenance, and repair of City Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities and Telemetry System. Assignments are received in either written or oral form. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Participates in preventative maintenance program, special projects and the repair of water, wastewater sewage collection and telemetry systems.
- Participates in maintenance of plant and collection system generator sets, performs electrical maintenance and repair, as required, for lift stations.
- Digs and backfills ditches, as required, for installation of new or existing electrical lines.
- Repairs and maintains electric motors, pumps, blowers, main electric panels, pump controls panels, telemetry servers, towers and other facilities.
- Cleans and maintains preventative maintenance sheds and work areas.
- Maintains inventory with respect to materials needed to perform preventative maintenance program.
- May operate light equipment and crane truck in order to pull pumps.
- Help in the repair and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Performs related functions as assigned.
- Clean trucks, sweep and clean warehouse and storage yard areas.
- Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required)
- May assist other departments in non essential jobs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Position requires a skilled Journeyman’s level of electrical work with the knowledge of motors, pumps, control panels, switch gears, transfer switches, generator sets and knowledge of 120-480 control circuits.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the maintenance of treatment plants and skill in their use.
- Position requires the ability to maintain, trouble shoot and repair treatment plant electrical and telemetry components, chlorine analyzers, turbidity meters, flow meters, mag meters, and all other critical treatment plant monitoring equipment.
- Knowledge in the maintenance and repair of utility plants and facilities.
- Knowledge of City water and sewer systems.
- The ability to work from sketches, maps and blueprints.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Perform related work as required.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED required.
- Some experience in the repair and maintenance of treatment plants, utilities distribution and collection facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have valid Florida Commercial B Driver’s License.
- A Comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
