The Communications Specialist of the Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance (IAWA) works closely with the Director of Communications to inform partners, farmers, donors, and the urban public of both water quality needs and progress. The Communications Specialist is expected to be a problem-solver with attention to deadlines, ability to manage multiple assignments at once, and have exceptional writing and relationship building skills. Successful candidates should have a passion for at least one of the following: creative problem solving, conservation, or agriculture.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with the team to help implement IAWA communication strategy using IAWA brand and voice guidelines.
- Invest time in developing strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Develop content, including multimedia, print materials, articles, web copy, and presentations (access available to DSLR camera, Canva, Adobe suite, and graphic design contractor).
- Assist in growing costsharecompare.com which requires assertiveness, organization, and meticulous attention to detail.
- With support, produce live-remote radio broadcasts, which involves storytelling, leading coordination meetings, and planning 6-12 person events
- Develop creative social media posts and use analytics to strategically adjust them
- Continuously be thinking of new ideas to overcome farmer communication barriers
- Assist in agri-news monitoring and the development of a partner newsletter.
- Represent IAWA at meetings, field days, and other events with key partners and constituencies.
COMPETENCIES
- A passion to learn and grow in communications and outreach tactics
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Content writing experience, including social media
- Confidence in meeting rooms and in networking
- Great with MS Office and PowerPoint
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
- AP style and/or Smart Brevity knowledge desirable

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related fields
- OR equivalent experience relevant to the role’s responsibilities
