Role
Lithium Nevada Corporation is looking for an Analytical Chemist Intern for our Lithium Americas Technical Center in Reno, NV. This position will help support the LNC business and the future Thacker Pass Operations. This position will help our analytical team with analytical method/process development for LNC projects by identifying, implementing, and maintaining the proper methods of analysis to help support operations, R&D, and initial startup of the plant. Responsibilities will include helping with hands on analytical support, interpreting analytical results and giving recommendations on options for analyzing in operations. The candidate must have relevant analytical chemistry experience based on classes and labs.
This position will be based out of the Lithium Americas Technical Center in Reno, NV and will report to the Analytical Lab Manager.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine preparation and analyses of chemical samples.
- Potentially utilize ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Ion Chromatography, Thermogravimetric Analysis and other techniques to analyze chemical compounds and samples.
- Test samples for quality control purposes.
- Assist with monitoring the inventory of consumables and reagents to ensure there are enough supplies to keep up with testing schedules.
- Participate in identifying equipment and developing methods of analysis for Operational Quality Control and R&D initiatives for the business.
- Support Lab Safety in the Technical Center
- Help perform instrument maintenance and set up appropriate preventative maintenance programs for lab equipment at the Technical Center.
- Adhere to principles of ISO-9000 Quality Management System.
- Learn how the analytical information management systems work and where necessary help capture and maintain analytical data.
- Take part in training in proper sampling procedures, operation of QC and R&D equipment and QC record keeping when required.
- Help ensure a safe working environment and provide a daily commitment to zero harm to employees, contractors, environment at the Technical Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Education
- Currently enrolled in chemistry or related discipline, at the collegiate level, required.

Work Schedule and Duration of Assignment:
The incumbent works a 40 hour/week schedule, primarily from Monday through Friday. The role is planned as a summer internship with a duration of approximately ten weeks.
