Position Overview:
Coastline Equipment is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Compact Construction Equipment Sales Representative to join our Bakersfield branch. This vital role is essential to expanding our market presence and driving sales growth within the compact construction equipment sector. The Sales Representative will engage with customers in a defined sales area, showcasing our world-class equipment solutions and ensuring exceptional service delivery. By leveraging industry knowledge and strong relationship-building skills, the Sales Representative will play a key role in Coastline Equipment’s continued success and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales Representation: Represent Coastline Equipment in the sale of compact construction machinery to customers within the assigned territory.
- Product Expertise: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all John Deere, Wirtgen, and Topcon equipment, including features, benefits, and applications, to effectively address customer needs.
- Market Monitoring: Keep abreast of competitive activities and product offerings, providing timely updates to management to inform strategic decisions.
- Customer Relationship Management: Maintain comprehensive and accurate customer information within the CRM system to support sales management and follow-up activities.
- Sales Process Adherence: Follow and optimize a defined sales process to ensure consistency and effectiveness in sales activities.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the assigned company vehicle and equipment are well-maintained and presentable at all times.
- Event Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of customer events, including demonstrations and promotional activities.
- Field Demonstrations: Conduct on-site demonstrations of new equipment, highlighting key features and operational benefits to potential clients.
- Trend Analysis: Monitor and analyze trends in customers’ business activities, communicating insights to management to identify new opportunities.
- Financing Support: Stay informed about current financing options to help customers secure purchases of new and used equipment.
- Training Participation: Attend relevant sales training events and seminars to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques.
- Used Equipment Evaluation: Maintain knowledge of used equipment values and perform accurate evaluations for trade-in purposes when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in equipment sales or territory-based selling, preferably within the construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of construction industry operations and equipment usage. Proficiency in using iOS platforms and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- CRM Proficiency: Experience with CRM systems for managing customer information and sales activities.
- Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Soft Skills: Excellent customer relationship skills, strong analytical abilities, and the capacity to interpret basic sales reports. Ability to work flexible hours to meet client needs.

Preferred Experience:
- Industry Knowledge: Experience working with John Deere, Wirtgen, or Topcon equipment is highly desirable.

- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with advanced CRM functionalities and sales analytics tools.
- Regional Experience: Previous experience selling in Kern County or surrounding areas is advantageous.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid Role: Combination of office-based tasks and field visits to client sites, trade shows, and customer events.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel regularly within Kern County and surrounding regions to meet with clients and attend industry events.
- Environmental Conditions: Ability to work in various weather conditions and navigate diverse construction sites as required.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports To: Sales Manager, Bakersfield Branch
- Collaboration: Works closely with the marketing team, service technicians, and product specialists to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
- Team Interaction: May collaborate with other sales representatives and support staff to achieve collective sales targets and share best practices.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Wage: Base salary ranging from $38,400 to $40,000 annually, plus commission potential bringing total compensation to approximately $120,000 to $180,000, depending on target sales achievement.
