The School Administrator will begin with us on July 1, 2025 to actively participate in learning and incorporating American Indian language, traditions, and the Seven Sacred Gifts into daily work. They foster strong student relationships, creating a community based on love, care, respect, and traditional values. The Administrator ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational policies, overseeing third-party vendors and managing department budgets. They contribute to the ICS Strategic Plan, develop action plans aligned with strategic goals, and support professional development to enhance staff skills. The Administrator collaborates with the leadership team, provides monthly activity reports to the Board, attends meetings, and completes special projects as assigned.

As the School Administrator for ICS, you will have oversight of the following areas:

Administrative Leadership: The School Administrator uses data to assess educational goals, methods, and resource utilization, collaborating with the Leadership Team to identify and address any shortcomings. They work closely with the Our Ways Director and Director of Instruction to implement the Our Ways Teaching & Learning Framework across the curriculum. The Administrator sets measurable performance goals for all supervised departments and manages the development, coordination, and oversight of school-wide operational programs. They ensure safety procedures are in place and followed. They oversee the IT Department to maintain secure and efficient systems, and conduct research to improve operational systems. Additionally, they manage the academic calendar, supervise the Summer School program, and ensure the effective delivery of school-wide outcomes. 

Personnel: The School Administrator provides leadership and support for targeted professional development programs to enhance staff skills and capacity. They oversee the implementation of the school’s discipline policies and standards of conduct, ensuring alignment with school expectations. Regular and effective communication with staff is maintained to ensure smooth school operations. The Administrator is responsible for ensuring adequate coverage for school programs, managing school volunteers, guests, consultants, and interns. Additionally, they supervise and evaluate the performance of all staff under their direct supervision and provide leadership for professional development aimed at strengthening the principal’s leadership and quality.

Fiscal and Operational Management: The School Administrator leads the ICS Safety Committee in collaboration with the Director of Facilities and Engineering, ensuring a safe school environment. They oversee the Food Service department to ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including USDA, ServSafe, HACCP, and the ICS Food Safety & Sanitation Program. Additionally, the Administrator manages the daily operations of transportation and bussing to ensure smooth and efficient services.

Community Relations: The School Administrator actively participates in and facilitates school and community events to promote collaboration. They regularly communicate with students and families about upcoming events, activities, and classroom learning. Additionally, the Administrator oversees the Family Resource Center, ensuring strong engagement with early childhood, families, and the broader community.

Relationship to the Board: Ensures that the requirements and processes of school accreditation are successfully completed.

A successful School Administrator at ICS will meet the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with American Indian cultures, communities, and students required.
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a field of Education required.
  • Ability to obtain a Wisconsin DPI Administration License within 12 months required.
  • Principal license (5051) or Superintendent license (5003) required.
  • Supervisory and management experience required.
  • Minimum of five years previous teaching experience required.
  • Minimum of five years administration experience preferred. 
  • Experience with education in an urban setting preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
