Position Summary
Responsible for all functional areas of Conventional Steel, but not limited to; Communication with steel foremen, steel manager, co-workers, and other sub-contractors; Maintaining quality assurance and control of the construction project; Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals; Must possess the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Ability to work as part of a team/ group; Possess a willingness to learn and to be taught. Responsible for his/her own actions and conduct under the law, therefore adhering to all local, State, Federal, OSHA regulations, and company safety directives and policies.
Responsible for laying out and erecting structural steel and sheet metal in order to build metal structures. Welds and cuts steel interprets blueprint. Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings and other structures.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Build and install iron or steel girders, columns, and other construction materials to form buildings, bridges, and other structures.
• Repair older infrastructure.
• Make, weld, and cut structural metal on job sites
• Erect steel frames.
• Direct operation of cranes to move structural steel, and other materials onto and around the construction site.
• Connect steel columns, beams, and girders.
• Drill holes into steel for bolts.
• Unload and stack steel.
• Attach cables to steel and then to the crane.
• Hoist steel into place in the framework.
• Position steel with connecting bars and spud wrenches.
• Work with drift pins and four-pound hammers to align the holes in the steel with the framework holes.
• Use plumb bobs, levels, and laser equipment to check alignment.
• Bolt or weld the piece into place.

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or
• One month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
• Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Ability to read a tape measure

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
• Manually lift a variety of materials, equipment, and other necessary objects.
• Carry heavy loads of material on the shoulder from a specified area to where work is being done.
• Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds
• Work in cramped areas – i.e., boom lifts and scissors lift.
• Work in awkward body positions.
• Work for long periods in air/ on steel.
• Use hands and arms fully.
• Must be agile enough to walk over voided spaces, muddy, icy, wet, slippery and/ or uneven terrain.
• Climb up and down ladders, scaffolding or other objects and maintain balance.
• Able to access multiple levels of an unapproved building/ incomplete project.

• Bend over for long periods of time (i.e. tying/ welding steel together, spotting clips, crimping roof, pouring concrete etc.)
• Stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl to reach for and position reinforcing material.
• Will be required to work under adverse weather conditions.
