The Summer Youth Groundskeeper program is open to youth ages 16 and 17 years old. The program will run May 27-August 1. The schedule will be M-F 7:00 am-3:30 pm with a 30-minute lunch. The position will pay $12.50 per hour and includes one paid holiday: Fourth of July.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
75% Ground Maintenance
- Plant, mow, trim, rake, fertilize, and water the grass on public grounds.
- Maintain public grounds to keep areas in a clean and neat appearance.
- Operate equipment on a regular basis.
25% Maintaining Facilities and Equipment
- Maintain all department equipment in a good and working order.
- Organize and maintain the division facilities in a clean and safe condition.
- Inspect, repair, and paint park facilities as needed.
- Gather trash and empty trash cans.
- Clean restrooms and park facilities.
Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned will be performed in order to address business needs.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Latitude: Most duties are defined and consistent from day to day. Problem solving requiring is accomplished in conjunction with supervisor. Some decisions not affecting other departments may be made independently based on city policy. All purchase requests must be approved by supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
Interaction: Frequent interaction with employees throughout the organization and the general public.
Qualifications:
- General knowledge of related maintenance and repair.
- General knowledge of grounds maintenance.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the general public and communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Frequent (90%) exposure to adverse weather conditions. Frequent (40%) carrying, lifting, moving, or pushing of 50 pounds. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.
