Job Summary:

This entry-level, part-time internship will give the individual a broad overview of various aspects of the business and exposure to the construction industry in general. With a specific mentor in each area, the individual will observe and learn about operations in Quality Control, Quarries & Sand Yards, Paving & Trucking, Ready Mix Concrete & Building Materials, and Asphalt Plants. 

Schedule:

This internship program will run for 10 weeks, beginning on June 9th and ending on August 14th. Interns will work 24 hours per week, scheduled for three 8-hour days. The work schedule will be from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on assigned days.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shadowing experienced professionals to gain a better understanding of the construction process. 
  • Observe the aggregate, lab, and density testing process  
  • Observe the mix design process  
  • Observe production, troubleshooting, gradation, ticketing, and scheduling processes at sand and gravel pits  
  • Understand the movement and production process of aggregates 
  • Observe duties assigned to project managers for scheduling and managing construction projects  
  • Shadowing project managers when on the job site  
  • Shadow building materials sales professionals and purchasing representatives  
  • Observe dispatching duties  
  • Attending training sessions as part of the internship program. 
  • In-person attendance is required.   

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on assistance with specific projects on occasion  
  • Perform any other tasks or projects assigned by the team to support the department's goals. 
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to sounds and odors commonly associated with the job.  
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Valid Driver’s License (DL) and satisfactory driving record is required.  
  • Ability to travel to job sites  
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. 
  • Willingness to learn, with a positive attitude, dependability, and strong teamwork.   
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently is essential.   
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  

Education and Experience:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
