Smyth Industries Engineering Division is currently searching for an Engineering Technician I - Intern intending to learn more about the Water Infrastructure Industry while helping enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry through the following responsibilities:
Scope: Under close supervision learn planning, supervising, designing, and maintaining construction projects for the water and reclamation industry. Assist our client engineers, rehabilitate, manufacture and construct water distribution and treatment infrastructure. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be receptive to knowledge of design software and standards for design of civil and/or electrical water/reclamation infrastructure.
- Provide engineering project management support on a variety of consulting, manufacturing, and/or construction projects.
- Perform mathematical and other engineering calculations appropriate to the area of assignment.
- Exhibits knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
- Performs basic details and assembly drawings, under supervision.
- Complies and organizes data and provides analysis.
- Thrives in a team environment that encourages cooperation, communication, and mutual sharing of risk, responsibility, and reward.
- Be receptive to learning engineering technical and consulting services in support of planning, studies, analysis, design, and construction of water/wastewater treatment and distribution systems, which may include pump/lift stations, well sites, water and sewer lines, treatment systems, and storage reservoirs.
- Assist in the technical work products of staff engineers performing technical tasks to support water/wastewater projects.
- Willing to learn how to meet financial objectives. Identify potential project issues and work with the leadership team to devise and implement mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, subconsultants, vendors and suppliers to deliver planning and design projects.
- Be ready to learn how to compile and submit permit applications to Local, State, and Federal Agencies to support delivery of design projects.
- Open-minded to learn industry-specific design and modeling software to plan and design hydraulic systems, water plant infrastructure, treatment systems, and other infrastructure in line with industry and government standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Intern must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering school with the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or other related field of Engineering, and have completed a minimum of one (1) year of coursework.
- Possesses foundational engineering concepts through undergraduate/graduate level education.
- Solid organizational, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with multi-discipline team members.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PDF, Teams).
- Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
- Required to pass a preemployment drug screening.
- Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment.
- The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.
Preferred:
- Experience with Autodesk programs or other 2D/3D design software.
- Working knowledge of CADD related software (AutoCAD).
