Job Overview
We are recruiting a General Superintendent to join our team at the BHP Jansen Potash Mine in Jansen, SK. This position is based on a 14/7 rotation and is camp-based at the Jansen Discovery Lodge.
The General Superintendent is accountable for leading a team of multi discipline general foreperson and trades people. The general scope lies within the Tailings Management Area and consists of civil earthworks, concrete, mechanical, structural steel and electrical. A strong background in general construction and leadership is essential to the overall success of the team. The General Superintendent shall be responsible of implementing construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget, while maintaining strict adherence to OH&S and Corporate Health and Safety Regulations and policies, as well as Quality Control Guidelines and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all phases of construction projects, ensuring that tasks are completed according to project schedules, specifications, and budget requirements
- Coordinate the work of project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure smooth execution of project activities
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, organize safety meetings, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment for all personnel
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project milestones, adjusting plans as necessary to accommodate changes in the project timeline or scope
- Oversee and manage the performance of subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring they meet project requirements, timelines, and quality standards
- Provide regular updates on project progress, budget status, and any issues that may arise, ensuring that all parties are informed and aligned with project goals
- At times, work with legal, environmental, and regulatory teams to address any compliance issues and resolve potential conflicts or violations
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field; Enginering, Civil Services
- Minimum 10 years industry experience
- Experience with budgeting, cost control, and contract management for construction projects
- Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse team of construction professionals, including project managers, superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills to manage complex and challenging situations on job sites
- Ability to enforce safety regulations, conduct safety audits, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment
- Proficient in tracking project progress, managing budgets, and ensuring adherence to scope, quality, and safety standards.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal to effectively communicate with stakeholders
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test including cannabis
