Pay Type / Range: Union Journeyman Scale.  $42.77 – 50.00 per hour (based on union, experience, and type of work).

Job Summary: Our Grading Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to grading and base preparation for asphalt paving projects. This individual leads a crew to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications, schedules, and quality standards.  This position plays a vital role within our organization by prospecting, preparing accurate cost estimates, and managing profitable work consistent with the company’s risk tolerance and objectives and much more.  They juggle multiple duties, manage a variety of jobs and collaborate with other estimators, staff, field supervisors and employees to ensure proper coordination and performance. This position must be proactive in the company’s marketing and customer retention as well.

Job Duties & Requirements:

  • Supervise and direct grading crews, equipment operators, and laborers in daily jobsite activities
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members, fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability
  • Interpret and implement project plans, blueprints, grades, and specifications
  • Attend weekly scheduling meetings/schedule jobs.
  • Schedule subcontractors, materials, trucks and equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with project managers, inspectors, and other trades on job progress and any challenges
  • Set elevations for grading and paving.
  • Measure and report quantities on daily field log.
  • Ensure Gopher One calls are done in advance of work.
  • Monitor and maintain safe working conditions in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards (including performing toolbox talks).
  • Attend pre-con meetings and take notes.
  • Inform employees of the day’s work and expectations.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may affect productivity or quality
  • Manage daily cleanup of job.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 5 years of grading experience
  • Operator experience
  • Management experience
  • Safety experience/knowledge
  • Computer skills
  • Strong math skills
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Professional conduct
  • Industry knowledge/hands-on experience preferred
  • Logistics and scheduling
  • Safety awareness (MMUTCD, OSHA understanding)
  • Ability to work extended hours and in varying weather conditions
