Job Overview

As a member of our Commercial Projects division, you will join other experienced employee-owners in building some of Maine’s most recognizable buildings in our varied commercial portfolio, which includes projects in housing, hospitality, higher education, healthcare, and other commercial spaces. 

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-driven Project Engineer to join our expanding team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and various stakeholders to provide comprehensive construction management support, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. As a key member of our Commercial Project Management team, you will oversee the technical aspects of construction projects, including planning, budgeting, and logistics, while playing a critical role in the successful delivery of commercial construction projects from start to finish.

Job Requirements

  • Support Project Managers by completing a variety of technical project management functions and assisting in the planning and execution of construction projects from start to finish.
  • Develop a clear, complete understanding of project scope by reviewing plans, documents, and estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Coordinate project schedules and manage timelines to meet deadlines.
  • Oversee the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure quality and adherence to project specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, drawings, and contracts.
  • Monitor construction progress, track project budgets, and address any discrepancies.
  • Anticipate, identify, and promptly address issues that impact performance in risk, financials, or timing of project delivery and troubleshooting any challenges.
  • Assist with project closeouts by monitoring progress and ensuring that closeout procedures are started early and completed thoroughly at each step.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
  • One to three years of related experience in the construction field preferred with relevant internships, co-op experience, or academic projects desirable.
  • Strong understanding of construction principles and project management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with construction processes, materials, and safety standards gained through academic projects, internships, or previous experience.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage projects from start to finish with excellent attention to detail while working under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work in a clear, organized, and well documented manner to ensure compliance with contract documents, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and knowledge of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, and Bluebeam) is a plus.
