Smyth Industries Operations Team is currently searching for a Fleet & Equipment Manager to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
Scope: We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Fleet and Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, operation, and compliance of a diverse fleet, including light to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and CAT equipment. This role is critical in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and longevity of all company-owned vehicles and machinery. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all company-owned trucks, trailers, and CAT equipment.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment lifespan and reduce downtime.
- Manage equipment procurement, replacement planning, and disposal strategies to maintain an efficient fleet.
- Monitor fleet performance using Geotab telematics systems and CAT Vision Link, leveraging data to optimize operations.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, repairs, inspections, and utilization.
- Oversee inventory management, including parts procurement, vendor negotiations, and cost control.
- Coordinate and manage vehicle licensing/registration and insurance activities to ensure all fleet vehicles are legal to operate on public roadways.
Safety:
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental policies.
- Conduct regular fleet safety audits and equipment inspections to maintain operational integrity.
- Train employees on proper equipment usage, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Investigate and address fleet-related incidents, accidents, and mechanical failures to enhance workplace safety.
People:
- Lead and manage fleet maintenance personnel, including mechanics, technicians, and support staff.
- Coordinate with drivers, operators, and project managers to meet equipment needs.
- Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for fleet personnel.
Improvement:
- Analyze fleet data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for cost reduction and operational improvement.
- Research and recommend new technologies, equipment, and best practices to enhance fleet performance.
- Develop and refine fleet policies and procedures to increase reliability and compliance.
- Implement sustainability initiatives to reduce fuel consumption and minimize environmental impact.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in fleet and equipment management, preferably within the construction or heavy equipment industry.
- Strong knowledge of trucks, trailers, and CAT equipment maintenance and repair.
- Proficiency in fleet management software, including Geotab telematics systems and CAT Vision Link.
- Experience with fleet database systems for reporting and analysis.
- Ability to facilitate troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office (MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Required to pass a preemployment drug screening.
- Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment.
- The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Technical certification in automotive/diesel technology or a related field.
- Strong knowledge in water and reclamation construction
- Experience in construction project management.
- Experience using Procore Construction Manager software.
- Bilingual (Spanish)
