Job Summary:

The Inside Sales Representative will provide crucial support to our outside sales team, handle inbound customer inquiries, review project plans, and generate quotes. The primary focus will be on enhancing customer relationships and ensuring a smooth purchasing process. Additionally, this individual will play a key role in addressing customer concerns and contributing to the overall success of our sales efforts. This role will also involve the responsibility of preparing submittal packages. 


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the outside sales team, providing them with the necessary information and support to drive sales. 
  • Field inbound customer calls, answer inquiries, and provide information on our products and services. 
  • Proactively make targeted calls to customers to identify and pursue sales opportunities. 
  • Ensure timely follow-up on customer inquiries and requests. 
  • Review project plans and specifications to accurately determine the materials needed. 
  • Generate and provide quotes for applicable materials in a timely manner. 
  • Prepare submittal packages in compliance with project requirements and customer needs, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete. 
  • Take ownership of and resolve any shipping issues, such as lost, damaged, or delayed shipments. 
  • In-person attendance is required.  

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Address customer complaints, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives, and follow up to ensure resolution and customer satisfaction. 
  • Fill in for Counter Sales at Yard locations when needed, providing customers with in-person support and product information. 
  • Attend meetings as necessary to stay informed about company policies, goals, and strategies. 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support the overall success of the sales department. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds 
  • The position may work outside of normal business hours.    
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.   

Skills/Abilities:

  • Prior experience in inside sales or a related field is preferred. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to analyze and interpret project plans. 
  • Proficient in CRM, sales tools, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills are essential. 
  • Must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers. 
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to handle various tasks. 
  • Needs to be a team player with willingness to assist others as needed. 
  • Professional, energetic, and forward-thinking with strong interpersonal skills is essential. 
  • High work ethic, safety standards, and ethical integrity. 
  • Ability to work independently and in teams under time constraints. 
  • Capable of maintaining confidentiality and following instructions. 
  • Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company’s goals.     

Education and Experience:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.   
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or construction management is preferred.
