Trainee Equipment Mechanic

Overview: 

We are looking for a motivated Trainee Equipment Mechanic to assist with the basic maintenance and repair of our fleet, including tractor trailers, flatbeds, pickup trucks, and other heavy equipment. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build hands-on experience in the field of diesel and heavy equipment mechanics. You’ll work under the guidance of experienced mechanics and have the opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive, team-based environment.

Daily Duties:

  • Assist with basic repairs and routine servicing of trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Support vehicle and equipment inspections under the supervision of experienced mechanics.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Help with tool setup and teardown for jobs.
  • Perform oil changes, fluid top-offs, and filter replacements as directed.
  • Participate in team safety meetings and follow all safety protocols.
  • Travel to job sites with lead mechanics as needed
  • Comply with OSHA safety laws and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Interest in heavy equipment, diesel mechanics, or related mechanical fields.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge or hands-on experience is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, and general mechanical operations.
  • Ability to work after-hours/nights/weekends as required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Attention to detail and advanced organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve practical problems, make logical decisions and communicate ideas.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, and crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machines or vehicles to exact positions.
  • Ability to judge the distances between you and an object, depth perception.
  • Ability to respond to a signal when it appears, reaction time.
  • Coordinate the use of hands, arms, and legs fully. Reach for the handle and use it to manipulate objects and materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Vision – the ability to see details at close range and details at distance (either naturally or with correction).
  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks

Environmental Conditions

  • Work outside and be exposed to the weather.
  • Wear protective or safety equipment, i.e. safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
