The Safety & Compliance Intern will support the Compliance and Risk Specialist in a variety of administrative and operational tasks related to employee health, safety programs, regulatory compliance, and client requirements. This role offers hands-on experience in medical surveillance coordination, drug screening processes, and industry-specific compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with scheduling and tracking pre-employment drug screens, physicals, and certifications
- Review and process medical documentation and billing for accuracy and compliance
- Support compliance with OSHA, MSHA, FRA, USCG, PHMSA, and other regulatory bodies
- Manage hearing protection program, including scheduling and uploading audiogram results
- Maintain and update safety and medical records in company systems
- Coordinate with clinics for authorizations, test results, and documentation follow-up
- Monitor and track employee certification expirations (e.g., DOT cards, dive physicals)
- Assist with drug screening program logistics (random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty)
- Help manage client-specific entry requirements, including background checks and online training
- Support data entry and reporting in client prequalification systems (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce)
- Participate in incident investigation documentation and compliance responses (OSHA/MSHA)
- Assist with safety supply management, credit card coding, and administrative support tasks
Qualifications:
- Currently in pursuit of 2- or 4-year degree in Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Prior office or internship experience preferred.
- verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, on computers and other electronic devices
- Strong interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter, highly organized, and creative
- Superior time management and organizational capabilities, including the ability to accurately benchmark project length, deliver on deadlines
