Smyth Industries Safety Division is currently searching for an individual with experience as a Safety Professional to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
Scope: Under minimal supervision, the Safety Professional supports a safe and compliant work environment by conducting field inspections, delivering basic safety training, and assisting in the implementation of safety programs. The Safety Professional serves as a visible presence in the field, helping crews understand and apply safe work practices through consistent engagement and hands-on support. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations, while promoting and upholding the Smyth Industries Policies, Procedures, and Core Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Field Inspections & Audits
- Actively visit job sites, yards, and operational areas to identify potential hazards and recommend real-time solutions to protect workers from unsafe conditions.
- Conduct frequent audits and walkthroughs to ensure work practices align with both internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with crews during site visits to coach and correct in the moment, reinforcing expectations while building trust through presence.
- Travel regularly to project locations to perform inspections, deliver safety messaging, and serve as a field resource for ongoing education.
- Lead follow-up efforts by preparing audit reports, recommending corrective actions, and supporting teams through implementation.
- Assist in identifying health risks by evaluating job processes, materials, equipment, and work environments.
- Participate in incident or near-miss investigations with a focus on learning and prevention—educating teams on root causes and safety solutions.
- Collaborate with field leadership to implement mitigation strategies and coach crews through changes to ensure long-term success.
Training & Development Support
- Support the Safety Manager by delivering and reinforcing training during site visits, safety meetings, and day-to-day operations.
- Facilitate initial and renewal training (e.g., OSHA 10/30, CPR, scaffolding, ladder safety) in both classroom and jobsite settings.
- Act as a boots-on-the-ground training resource, helping employees understand and apply safety practices in real-time work environments.
- Coordinate logistics and maintain records for company-wide safety training program
Safety Programs & Culture Building
- Contribute to the development, review, and updating of site-specific safety plans in collaboration with project teams.
- Stay informed on evolving safety regulations to help keep programs and practices up to date.
- Promote a strong culture of safety by modeling safe behavior, fostering open communication, and supporting leadership through daily field engagement.
Incident Investigations
- Assist with field-level investigations to identify root causes of accidents, near-misses, or unsafe behaviors.
- Communicate findings clearly to affected teams and help implement practical preventive measures.
- Reinforce learning by discussing incidents with field crews and using them as teaching moments for broader risk awareness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2+ years of Safety experience in construction or mining industries.
- Knowledgeable in risk management and health/safety management or the equivalent of job experience and length time in the safety field.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards required
- Knowledgeable in environmental safety or a similar field, including courses or training in managing hazardous materials

- Required to pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment.
