The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller to support the financial operations of the company. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with strong analytical skills who is ready to take on a leadership role in managing the financial activities of a dynamic and fast-paced construction environment. The Assistant Controller will assist in overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with internal and external financial regulations.

We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing team in Wilson, North Carolina.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Controller in overseeing the company's financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial reports for management.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other departments to track project costs, revenues, and profitability.
  • Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors during audits.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions when needed.
  • Assist with tax filings, including sales tax, property tax, and other compliance-related filings.
  • Reconcile accounts for inaccuracies and imbalances to ensure the accuracy of financial data.
  • Support the Controller with special projects and other tasks as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Skilled in time management, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Spectrum, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively.

 

Position Requirements:

Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience Required

  • CPA or CMA designation preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction or related industries.

Working Conditions:

  • All work is performed in the office environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, and night shift if needed.
