Key Responsibilities 

  • Performs day-to-day system and network administration, including managing, monitoring and troubleshooting the local LAN, WAN, and VPN connectivity and all server performance, creating new user accounts, modifying, disabling and deleting network user accounts, computers, printers and other equipment to the network; monitoring network security; performing periodic updates, installing new patches and limiting access to the system.
  • Manages the installation, configuration, upgrade, maintenance, and deployment of all existing and/or new windows servers. Develops automation processes and procedures used in daily user administration. Monitors and reports on various network and server services and performance daily. Maintains thorough documentation of network topology, system configurations, administrative procedures, and technical workflows. Ensures a high level of performance in securing the systems and network.
  • Provides expert level support to IT Desktop Support Analyst and IT Specialists in upgrading hardware/software to existing computer equipment and networking activities at the sites and desktop support functions to the end users as requested. Performs software licensing inventory and maintenance.
  • Administers the phone and voice mail system by creating end users, modifies and deletes employee’s voice mail account; generates system usage reports; edits DHA’s voice greetings. Provides desktop support functions to assist users with procedures, and use of desktop and laptop computers, printers, telephones, and related peripheral devices. Analyzes and resolves performance problems involving the operating system and associated hardware.
  • Properly communicates with the workforce on any system and network issues, initiates and recommends corrective action plan, and performs follow-up to ensure proper resolution.
  • Works with vendors to ensure the proper setup and configuration of the local area network and servers.

Knowledge and Skills for Success

A successful IT Network & System Administrator has

  • Knowledge of DHA organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Mobile device management (MDM) and Intune as an endpoint configuration tool.
  • Modern IT infrastructure components, including network architecture, Windows servers, virtualization, and cloud services.
  • Installation, configuration, and administration of hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file sharing, and multifactor user authentication services.
  • Endpoint security practices, antivirus management, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, Office 365, Microsoft Entra, and backup/disaster recovery solutions.
  • Telecommunication systems, including VoIP phone systems and voicemail configuration.
  • Software deployment, patch management, and licensing compliance.
  • Scripting and automation for system administration (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Network client configuration and integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Delivering responsive and effective customer service to users at all technical levels.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintaining detailed technical documentation, SOPs, and change logs.
  • Managing multiple priorities and adapting to evolving technology needs.
  • Collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders across departments.
  • The ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field
  • Four (4) years of Windows system and network administration experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+ certification is required.
