Summary: JH Kelly has fully integrated electrical services and construction capabilities throughout the Northwest. Our team of over 200 Electricians works daily with owners, general contractors, and facility staff to deliver safe and reliable projects and services.

As an Electrical Project Manager for the Electrical Service and Special Projects Team, you will lead the full project lifecycle, from preconstruction to turnover, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will oversee projects up to $1M, managing design, virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation, startup, and project turnover. Your role involves planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and coordinating all aspects of the project, including financial performance, while leveraging AI and innovative tools to enhance project processes. Projects must be completed at or below budget and ahead of schedule while maintaining safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Salary Range:  $43 - $57 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Promote and enforce company safety and quality protocols, fostering a culture of safety. Review all project-related documents (drawings, submittals, samples, shop drawings) to ensure compliance with contractual specifications and quality standards. Resolve any safety or quality issues promptly.
  • Project Planning and Management: Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and control systems, accounting for variances and ensuring timely completion. Create accurate cost-at-completion projections and manage estimates to control costs. Ensure in-house and subcontractor work complies with contract requirements.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Direct, mentor, and manage project staff, including interns, field engineers, and project engineers, to ensure successful execution. Train and develop team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Technical Oversight and Compliance: Provide technical support, perform field engineering tasks (e.g., calculations, design drafting for temporary construction solutions), and ensure compliance with contract specifications and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Communication and Coordination: Maintain proactive communication with management, providing regular updates on project status and scheduling. Coordinate work to facilitate the permit process and represent the company in meetings with stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Procurement and Change Management: Manage procurement, take off quantities, and prepare pricing for changes. Write and manage RFIs and change orders to address project modifications efficiently.
  • Financial Accountability: Ensure billings are prepared and collected timely manner. Consistently achieve greater-than-bid margin profits and develop repeat business with clients to satisfy shareholders.
  • Continuous Improvement and Documentation: Assess project processes for improvement opportunities, implement best practices to enhance efficiency and quality. Maintain thorough documentation of all project activities and decisions for accountability and transparency.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned to support project success.

Relationships:

  • Build and maintain proactive, collaborative relationships with shop and field craft personnel, JH Kelly operating groups, customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams (e.g., Safety, CAD/BIM, Accounting, IT).

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the electrical trade, such as a journeyman or master electrician license, or completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program
  • Equivalent hands-on experience in electrical construction or project coordination
  • Technical trade school or associate’s degree in a related field (e.g., Electrical Technology, Construction Management) is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is welcome but not required
  • 5+ years of experience managing the full Project Management life cycle in the electrical industry 
  • 5+ years of prior electrical field experience preferred (e.g., as an electrician or foreman) strongly preferred
  • A background or experience in electrical design, industrial controls, the electrical construction process, and the NEC is highly preferred
  • Expertise in all responsibilities of the project, showing proficiency and mastery with consistent positive results and growth:
    • Scheduling, budgeting, planning, and managing projects
    • Scheduling baseline, impact claims, and negotiation of soft subjects
    • Risk assessment and communication (internal & external)
    • Billings, forecasting, and resource management
    • Consistently achieving above-bid margin profits and securing repeat business.
  • Experience in multiple markets or sectors is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling using MS Project or similar tools is preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Accubid Classic Estimating; intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Ability to effectively adapt and leverage AI technologies to optimize project processes, including scheduling, cost forecasting, and workflow efficiency.
  • Above-average knowledge of project management, construction management, contracts, quality assurance/control, and safety.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings and isometrics.
  • Ability to conceptually visualize projects and implement financially successful plans.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements

The role requires transitioning between office and construction field environments. In the office, the individual must sit for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks (e.g., typing, using a mouse), and communicate by telephone. In the field, the individual must stand, walk, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods, climb stairs, kneel, crouch, crawl to inspect tight spaces, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and on-site communication. The individual must work outdoors in various weather conditions, adhere to site-specific dress codes, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
