Hunter Contracting Co. is looking for a full-time Business Development Manager to drive strategic growth by identifying future project opportunities aligned with company goals. Proactively support project teams by monitoring municipal budgets, capital improvement plans (CIPs), and funding cycles. Build trusted relationships with public agencies, civil engineers, and key partners to help secure targeted, preferred work.
Key Responsibilities
• Market Intelligence & Opportunity Tracking
o Research and track municipal budgets, CIPs, and bond initiatives to identify upcoming projects aligned with business priorities.
o Maintain a clear understanding of client goals, procurement processes, and long-range planning efforts.
o Monitor trends and shifts in target markets to inform strategy and maintain a competitive edge.
• Relationship Building
o Cultivate and strengthen relationships with public agencies, civil engineers, consultants, utilities, and industry partners.
o Meet regularly with municipal staff and design professionals to understand upcoming needs and promote collaboration.
o Attend industry meetings, conferences, and networking events to build brand visibility and stay ahead of project announcements.
• Strategy & Planning
o Develop and maintain a strategic business development plan that outlines goals, targets, and initiatives for each market segment.
o Identify gaps in backlog and pursue projects that fill revenue and market presence needs with preferred clients and partners.
o Collaborate with estimating and project teams to develop client-focused pursuit strategies and pre-position for success.
• Proposal & Presentation Leadership
o Support the development of qualification packages, proposals, and interview strategies in coordination with marketing and operations.
o Guide teams through effective client engagement, including proposal messaging, presentation coaching, and debrief participation.
• Internal Support & Reporting
o Provide project teams with insight on upcoming project opportunities and support pre-RFQ outreach.
o Maintain and manage customer relationship databases, including accurate CIP tracking and client activity logs.
o Provide regular updates to leadership on market status, emerging trends, and pursuit performance.
• Marketing Collaboration
o Support the creation and refinement of marketing materials, including client-facing collateral and digital presence.
o Coordinate with the marketing team on branding alignment and messaging consistency across all BD efforts.
• Industry Involvement
o Represent the company at expos, trade shows, and association events.
o Actively participate in professional organizations to enhance company visibility and thought leadership.
Work Qualifications:
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction projects.
• Knowledgeable in construction equipment and governmental requirements.
• Ability to analyze market dynamics to implement competitive differentiation.
• Ability to establish rapport at all levels, boardroom to mailroom.
• Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, and drawings.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Must have the ability to work long hours, some weekends, and a willingness to assume a high level of responsibility.
• Possesses a valid Drivers License with a clean driving record.
Education & Work Experience Guidelines:
• B.A. or B.S. Degree in Construction or Civil Engineering; AND,
• 5 years engineering/construction/sales experience with at least 3 years progressive Business Development and senior management experience OR,
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as determined by the hiring manager.
