Job Summary:

The selected candidate will be responsible for safety processes and related programs at RAM Enterprise, Inc., including job site safety leadership, DOT compliance, and foreman-level coordination. This individual will educate employees on Federal and State safety regulations, coordinate and direct safety and legal activities (MSHA, OSHA, and DOT), and represent the Company with outside agencies and inspectors.

The selected candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in underground mining and/or construction.

This is a salary, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Safety Manager of RAM Enterprise, Inc. located in our Elko, NV facility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform as a Safety Leader on field service jobs by actively monitoring and auditing work processes and practices for safety compliance; provide mentorship to assure safety compliance.
  • Assist lead supervision and RAM team members with hazard recognition and correction.
  • Lead or assist in incident and accident investigations. Prepare findings, recommend corrective actions, and help implement strategies to mitigate future risk.
  • Maintain accurate incident reporting using approved systems; create flash reports, summaries, and senior leadership reviews.
  • Facilitate or support root cause analyses (e.g., ICAM or 5-Why) and ensure development of effective corrective actions.
  • Conduct review of corrective actions involving both management and frontline personnel to ensure lessons are learned and applied.
  • Develop and deliver training for MSHA, OSHA, and DOT compliance; ensure employees receive both hazard-specific and site-specific training.
  • Assist with Formal Risk Assessments and monitor the development of action plans.
  • Support employees and supervisors in understanding and complying with all applicable federal, state, and company safety and health standards.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure accurate data entry in safety databases.
  • Participate actively in division safety teams and committees.
  • Attend and support toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions regularly.
  • Maintain availability for rotating on-call schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  •  Ability to provide accurate interpretation of MSHA and Nevada mining safety regulations.
  • Knowledge to apply Federal, State and Company safety requirements to job-site practices.

 

Additional Safety Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily safety planning activities with site supervision and field crews.
  • Act as a liaison between safety department and field leadership, ensuring all site-specific hazards and controls are communicated and understood.
  • Perform and document Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Pre-Task Hazard Assessments with crews.
  • Monitor crews for safe work practices, including proper use of PPE, adherence to procedures, and compliance with lockout/tagout, fall protection, and confined space entry protocols.
  • Provide coaching and discipline in cooperation with foremen and superintendents when unsafe behavior is observed.
  • Participate in and facilitate daily tailgate meetings and site walk-throughs.
  • Ensure the proper implementation and maintenance of site emergency plans.
  • Collaborate with organizational subject matter experts to tackle a range of complex problems and develop feasible, safe and sustainable solutions.
  • Conduct MSHA Surface training for RAM employees
  • Coordinate employees’ hazard and site-specific training
  • Other job duties as assigned by management.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1–5 years’ experience in a safety-related field, required
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in underground mining/construction, required
  • Experience in either operations or maintenance roles within the mining, construction or heavy equipment industry, preferred
  • Preferred:Blue Card holder and/or experience conducting training (Must have years of documented experience to be eligible to obtain an Underground MSHA Blue Card)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Detailed Knowledge of MSHA, State, and ATF regulations
  • Proven experience in accident prevention, auditing, and root cause investigation
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and site-specific safety regulations
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Self-motivated and committed to continuous learning
  • Bi-lingual preferred, not required
  • MUST BE ALLOWED ON ALL NEVADA MINE SITES

 

Criteria/Conditions:

  • Work performed in various industrial, mining, and construction environments
  • Exposure to temperature extremes, moving equipment, chemicals, and airborne particles
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and work at heights or confined spaces
  • Regular use of PPE including hard hat, gloves, hearing and eye protection, and respiratory protection as required
