Summary
This position supports end user requirements, develops recommendations for process improvements, and supports the implementation of these improvements.  Responsible for planning and directing analysis of complex business problems to be solved with automated systems. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Analyzes business functions which may include purchasing, inventory control, distribution, sales, financial accounting, job cost accounting, payroll and human resources in order to develop new or modified processes.

Consults with business unit management and personnel to identify and document business needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, data scope, usage, formatting, and security requirements.  Troubleshoots and provides recommendations for improving business processes and resolving application and software issues.

Provides technical assistance in identifying, evaluating, and developing systems and procedures.  Provides guidance for junior members of the staff.

Writes and maintains functional specifications for new or modified business processes and systems.  Develops and maintains user manuals and guidelines.

Consults and coordinates with systems analysts and programmers to design and develop automated business systems.  Tests revisions, enhancements or upgrades to ensure application is performing as designed.

Develops, coordinates, and implements plans to test business and functional processes during systems development and quality assurance testing.  Recommends, schedules and performs software improvements and assists with upgrades.

Consults with business unit management and personnel to obtain additional information during system development and to evaluate alternatives.  May instruct end-user on how to use software effectively.  May also work with business unit management to determine departmental application training needs and objectives.

Coordinates work of others to develop, test, install, and modify programs.  Follows up on issues and assures resolution.  Determines if this is part of a trend and takes necessary steps to alert others and assure it is resolved and functional.

Tracks and documents change to functional and business specifications.

Creates or assists others in the writing of user documentation, instructions, and procedures.

Monitors and documents post-implementation problems and revision requests.

Ensures data integrity between and within applications.

Prepares time and cost estimates for completing projects.

Work with vendors for efficient implementation of new software products or systems and for resolution of any implementation issues.  May also conduct research into software application products/services in support of development and purchasing efforts.

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Degree in a related discipline; and
  • previous business experience and/or training; or
  • equivalent combination of education and experience required. 

Computer Skills: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience with software used to process business transactions, such as, order processing, billing, inventory control, purchasing, sales analysis, general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost accounting, payroll, human resource and benefits software. Need experience and understanding on how integrated business systems work.   Must also have experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Access.  In depth, hands-on knowledge of and experience with enterprise applications, including an Enterprise Resource Program, like Lawson Software, PeopleSoft, SAP, or Oracle is required. 

Other Qualifications:   

  • Experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies and issue resolution techniques, including ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and ability to develop alternative solutions
  • Has hands-on experience developing test cases and test plans.  
  • Understands business transaction flow and how it impacts other areas in the process.
  • Must be able to travel between company locations. 
  • Working hours may be outside of regular business hours to meet customer demands, overtime may be required during times of critical system problems or updates.

  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in various situations.
