Position Summary:
The Assistant Field Manager performs functions to assist in controlling the field activities and the subcontractors to deliver the project on time, on budget, and per the plans and specifications, while maintaining an intense focus on safety. This role collaborates with the Field Manager, Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Project Coordinator to ensure each project runs smoothly.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage and monitor the work and progress of subcontractors to ensure contract compliance, quality, and adherence to the project schedule.
- Assist in overseeing job site safety & compliance with OSHA regulations and Cambridge safety plan.
- Assist with managing new site visitor safety training for subcontractors.
- Assist with maintaining records of subcontractors’ toolbox talks.
- Assist in monitoring, inspecting, and ensuring subcontractors are performing the work safely, adhering to schedules, and are producing quality work in line with subcontractor agreements and our client contract obligations.
- Assist in providing and working with an effective 4-week look ahead schedule, weekly.
- Update owner’s schedule bi-weekly
- Assist with planning and running the weekly foreman meetings, collaborating between the office and the subcontractors.
- Must be physically present onsite during construction and/or while subcontractors are present.
- Assist with managing the Request for Information (RFI) process (initiation, tracking, distribution, archiving & logs)
- Assist with managing the Submittal process (initiation, tracking, distribution, archiving & logs) in Sage CPC
- Liaison between the project owner, the office, the subcontractors, material suppliers, and inspectors
- Assist with managing the Foreman’s meetings, invitations, agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Assist Field Manager in completing detailed daily field reports for each day of work on the project, taking regular job photos.
- Review, verify, stamp, and log time and material labor tickets.
- Assist project team in review and issuance of RFI’s and submittals upon request.
- Initiate chargebacks as appropriate.
- Assist in updating As-Built drawings in red as variances occur and notify the office.
- Assist Field Manager in directing close out and punch list activities as necessary to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
- Log lessons learned as they occur during the construction of the project.
- Oversee site conditions to maintain general organization and cleanliness for the project.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
May lead and direct the work of subcontractors, project engineers and assistant project managers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in traveling superintendent role in commercial and/or industrial construction.
- Degree in engineering or construction management preferred
- Experience managing work crews, equipment utilization, material purchases, and subcontractors
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts, scope of work, drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- 100% travel as required by project, ability to go home once per month when traveling
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
- Experience utilizing construction management software; Procore is preferred
- PEMB, Waste industry and design-build experience is preferred
