Job Summary
Overland Ready Mixed is looking for a high performing, results-oriented Mechanic to provide preventative and corrective repairs on company automobiles, diesel trucks, and other vehicles or machinery. This person must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Reliable attendance required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Troubleshoots and repairs company vehicles and equipment as needed, including passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks and other designated machinery.
- Performs preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety. Specific tasks include, as needed: raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle; removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential; disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear; repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings; overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps; rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks; rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.
- Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.
- Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.
- Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
- Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of shop area.
- Assures safety standards are met.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associates Degree or Vocational Certification in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or related field; and
- six month’s related experience and/or training; or
- equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance plan.
- CDL is preferred, must be able to qualify and obtain a CDL within a reasonable amount of time after hire.
Other Qualifications:
- Must be flexible regarding work schedule; must be able to work nights and weekends. Department personnel are on call 24 hours a day and must be reachable by phone.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Minimal computer skills required. May be required to update department work files on occasion.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Must be able to climb a ladder up to 110 feet in height.

- Must be a self-starter and able to operate with minimal supervision.
- Must have ability to troubleshoot and take initiative to investigate and resolve problems.
- Must be able to get along well with others.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
