At Soltek Pacific the Estimator plays a critical role in the preconstruction process by developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of commercial, institutional, and federal construction projects. This position is responsible for analyzing project plans and specifications, identifying scopes of work, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids, and preparing detailed cost proposals in alignment with Soltek Pacific’s standards for quality, compliance, and competitiveness.

Essential Duties

  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for all scopes of work, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure complete coverage of project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate cost databases and historical pricing records for reference on future projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies in project documents.
  • Identify risk factors, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Participate in bid reviews and presentations, providing insight into pricing strategies and project assumptions.
  • Ensure estimates meet client requirements and comply with federal, state, and local building regulations and contracting standards.
  • Support preconstruction and procurement efforts through the transition from bid to project award.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of current industry trends, market pricing, labor rates, and construction methods.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client meetings as required to gather project information and build relationships.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 3–5 years of estimating experience in commercial, institutional, or government construction projects; design-build experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of public works, federal contract, and prevailing wage regulations is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or desk.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to see and read plans, specifications, and detailed documents.
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to walk job sites, including uneven terrain, stairs, and temporary construction conditions.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of documents, plans, and materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings, and other locations as required (local travel primarily).
