Position Overview
Job Type: Full Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM with occasional Saturdays and overtime opportunities
Classification: Non-exempt
Location: Based in Dansville, NY with routes throughout the Northeast
Compensation: $21 - $29 per hour
What You'll Do
As a CDL Truck Driver with LMC, you'll be an essential part of our operations, safely transporting materials and equipment to construction and steel fabrication sites across our Northeast territory. You'll operate a diverse fleet of vehicles including tractor-trailers, heavy-duty commercial pickups, straight trucks, roll-backs, flatbeds, single and double drop trailers, step-deck equipment, goosenecks, and pull-behind vans. Most routes are designed as day trips, though occasional overnight stays may be required for distant locations.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Operations
- Safely operate various commercial vehicles according to company standards and DOT regulations
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems and traditional maps to reach delivery destinations
- Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance
Loading & Delivery
- Pick up materials and equipment, verifying load accuracy against shipping documentation
- Properly secure cargo using appropriate tie-down methods and safety protocols
- Safely load and unload materials, utilizing forklifts when required
- Deliver goods according to customer specifications and timelines
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain detailed logs as required by DOT regulations
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance and report any mechanical issues promptly
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and industry best practices
Required Qualifications
Licensing & Certification
- Valid CDL (Class A, B, or C) with clean driving record
- Certificate from an accredited CDL school
- Current DOT medical certificate
- Minimum age of 21 years
Experience & Skills
- At least 2 years of over-the-road (OTR) driving experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of traffic laws and DOT regulations
- Certified forklift operation experience
- No DUI/DWI convictions within the past seven years
- Ability to pass random drug screening
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to lift 80 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday
- Strong listening and verbal communication skills
- Proven dependability and professional work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy equipment hauling experience
- Experience in construction or industrial transportation
Physical Requirements
This position requires physical stamina and flexibility, including the ability to sit for extended periods during long drives, regular use of arms, hands, and fingers for vehicle operation, and frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling for loading/inspection activities. You'll need to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally, along with the ability to properly strap down loads and perform safety checks that require bending and stretching.
