Casella Construction is seeking to hire a Heavy Equipment Welder & Fabricator to join our Maintenance Team in Pittsford, Vermont. The Heavy Equipment Welder & Fabricator is responsible for fabricating and repairing equipment components, including building buckets from scratch, interpreting blueprints, and working on aggregate crushers and other machinery. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in welding and fabrication, particularly in the heavy equipment and aggregate industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and weld heavy equipment components including buckets, frames, and structural parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Use MIG, Stick, plasma cutters, and oxy-acetylene torches proficiently.
  • Fabricate buckets, booms, and structural components from scratch using blueprints or by creating patterns when none exist.
  • Inspect welds and finished products for quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Collaborate with mechanics and technicians to ensure equipment is fabricated and repaired to operational standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Lead or assist in field installations and repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate daily progress and inventory needs to management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work van or shop area.
  • Represent the company professionally on job sites and with clients.
  • Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of welding and fabrication experience in a heavy equipment or industrial setting.
  • Up to 10 years of experience preferred for candidates seeking a lead role.
  • Proficiency in MIG, Stick welding, plasma cutting, and torch work is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience fabricating from scratch and working with aggregate crushers is a strong plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50–75 lbs regularly.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Work in various conditions including outdoors, confined spaces, and elevated platforms.
  • Operate heavy tools and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for extended periods, including welding helmets, gloves, and respirators when necessary.
  • Maintain physical and mental alertness during long shifts and while performing repetitive tasks.
