SUMMARY
Souder, Miller & Associates is currently recruiting for the Financial Controller position in Albuquerque, NM. Under the Supervision of the CFO, the Controller will manage the central finance function, ensuring the books are closed and tax and financial reporting is completed on a timely basis. The Controller position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and governmental (tax and operating) regulations, as well as the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. These abilities must also translate into the effective presentation of information and response to questions from groups of managers and clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the Finance department functions, day-to-day activities, and drives the improvement of business practices to ensure legal compliance.
- Monitors and leads the standardization of and SOP adherence to business unit accounting services.
- Ensure books are kept according to GAAP.
- Manage, mentor, and supervise finance personnel within the department.
- Support and evaluate each individual towards achieving their goals and maximum potential.
- Maintain business unit books & records.
- Ensure books are closed and financial reports are issued on a timely basis.
- Ensures all tax filings are prepared and filed on a timely basis.
- Sales tax, PR taxes, Property taxes, Income Tax, Forms 5500.
- Prepare and support any audits professionally.
- Work with members of the Corporate Executive Team or other senior management to:
- Drive financial processes (AR, AP, PR, etc.) to meet the business unit.
- Prepare or direct the preparation and modification of reports, inquiries, dashboards, and other user tools for review of the financial performance of the business.
- Track, report on, and potentially enforce consistent application of company financial management policies by staff.
- Develop and implement appropriate and robust accounting policies and procedures.
- Drive financial process improvements and the establishment of good practices.
- Ensure that an effective system of internal controls is in place and maintained.
- Responsible for the finance team schedules and the timely completion of projects.
- Coordinate and review the effectiveness of budget management and estimation within the business unit (i.e., successful completion of work within the estimated budget).
- Communicate opportunities for improved efficiencies of financial management, cash management, payments, cost control, and related activities.
- Maintain a good demeanor and demonstrate a high ethical standard to other employees.
- May direct and supervise other employees.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow business ethical practices.
Salary Grade: $100,000-$120,000 (Salary, DOE)
Travel: 25%
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or similar discipline) required.
- Minimum five years of experience post-graduation in a Controller or equivalent position.
- CPA registration, or the ability to achieve CPA registration within 18 months, Preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass the drug tests.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
