Large Equipment Operator Summary 

This position operates one or more types of construction equipment such as Excavators and Large Front-End loaders as they apply to surface mining operations. Operators are responsible for safe operation, non-mechanical maintenance and up-keep of equipment.  

Equipment Operator Responsibilities

• Discusses plans and goals for the day's work with plant foreman and determines best method of getting assigned work done safely, productively and on time.  
• Performs physical duties that are commonly associated with the safe and productive operation of said piece of equipment.  
• Performs equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and maintaining fluid levels on equipment.  
• Operates equipment with priority of making the job safe for all persons working around the equipment.  
• Communicates clearly with plant crew in a manner commensurate with teamwork in order to accomplish daily goals.  
• Properly follow all company policies and MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. 
• Assist other crew members with various duties such as line maintenance, ticket writing, etc. 
• Dig, spread and place aggregate materials in proper locations.
• Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies. 

Equipment Operator Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have valid driver's license.
• Two years' experience operating Excavator and/ or Large Front Loader.
• Flexible schedule required. Must be punctual and dependable, a good manager of time with a willingness to work overtime when required.
• Basic mechanical understanding and knowledge of the operational care of heavy construction equipment.
• Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures, including wearing of proper PPE.

Work Conditions/ Physical Requirements

• Capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds approximately 20 feet and working up to heights of 100 feet with safety guard rails.
• Exposed to weather elements, dust and loud noises.
• Must be able to climb on and off the equipment in a safe manner.

Relatable Work Experience: Applicants with the following experience may have enough relatable skills to be considered for this opening.

• Experience with Excavators or Large Front-End Loader (similar to Cat 980)
