Job Description
Summary/Objective
This position will involve repairing, replacing, and installing roofs primarily on buildings with a sloped roof (residential, churches, commercial, etc). This will entail installation of tile, shingle, metal, and coated roofing systems. We are looking to hire an efficient roofer to repair clients’ existing roofing systems and install new roofing systems where needed.
Essential Functions:
- Receive instructions from supervisor.
- Abide by all OSHA and Houck safety guidelines.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or work out of aerial equipment.
- Install protection on adjacent surfaces.
- Remove snow and water from roofs.
- Load and unload trucks.
- Remove and dispose of existing roofing material.
- Carry and place various materials for installation.
- Operate hand tools and small equipment, with proper training.
- Apply adhesives in a variety of techniques, including spray, roller, and hot mop.
- Roll out and position singly-ply and BUR materials.
- Install flashing and associated trim.
- Apply roof surfacing, to include coating and/or various sizes of gravel.
- Clean construction site and eliminate possible hazards.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers.
- Replacing or installing new roofing systems on buildings and customizing materials for individual roofs
- Ensuring that roofing materials are aligned with edges of roofs
- Cementing or nailing flashing-strips of metal or shingle over joints to ensure that they are watertight
- Critically inspecting a room to determine the best repair or replacement procedure for it
- Inspecting the work area to ensure that all required materials are present
- Ensuring that materials are properly trimmed to tightly fit along the edges of a roof and altering materials as needed
- Smoothing and leveling roof surfaces by smoothing out rough spots and preparing a surface for new shingles or waterproofing
- Ensuring that the job location is neat and safe by cleaning it up once the job is completed.

Preferred Requirements
- Preferred Roofer Requirements:
- Proven roofing or general construction experience.
- Working knowledge of different roofing systems.
- Sound knowledge of business ordinances.
- The ability to lift heavy materials and tools.
- The ability to use powered hand tools.
Work Environment
Functions can take place indoors or outdoors, sometimes in high, precarious places with fumes and/or airborne particles. The standard work environment has loud to very loud noise levels associated with various equipment, coworkers, and phone conversations. Often work must be performed in high and/or cramped workspaces and awkward positions. The employee works around hazardous situations, materials, and equipment.
Physical Demands
- Physical demands are based on the ability to perform the following actions throughout an 8–10-hour period of work for a 4–7-day work week.
