A growing controls company in the MD/DC area is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior HVAC Controls / Building Automation Technician to support the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of building automation systems (BAS). This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with a foundational understanding of HVAC systems and a desire to grow their skills in the fast-evolving field of building automation and controls technology.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the installation and startup of HVAC control systems, including wiring, sensor placement, and controller configuration
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of HVAC controls and building automation systems under the guidance of senior technicians
  • Support the programming and calibration of system controllers, sensors, and actuators
  • Work with mechanical and electrical drawings to identify control points and assist in system layout
  • Follow site safety protocols and comply with all relevant codes and standards
  • Collaborate with other trades and project teams during job execution
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including test results and configuration settings
  • Participate in training and development to enhance technical knowledge and certifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical training or coursework in HVAC, electrical, electronics, or related field
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment (e.g., air handlers, boilers, VAV boxes)
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring and low-voltage systems
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred:

  • Associate degree or certification in HVAC, Building Automation, or related field
  • Experience with DDC (Direct Digital Controls) systems or platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, Honeywell, etc.)
  • OSHA 10/30 certification
  • Familiarity with networking basics (IP addressing, BACnet, Modbus, etc.)
  • Niagara experience a plus!
