Premier Fire & Security, an APi Group Life Safety USA company, has an opening for a self-motivated individual to join our team as a Fire Suppression Technician. This position will work from our Paducah, Kentucky office.

Premier Fire & Security has over 50 years of experience in the fire suppression industry and has expanded its footprint to serve customers throughout the Southeast. We offer a range of services including: fire sprinkler systems, security systems, fire alarm and detection systems, special hazards systems, voice data systems and fire extinguisher products.

A Fire Suppression Technician inspects, repairs, and tests fire suppression systems and monitoring devices. Work is performed both at the maintenance and repair shop as well as at customer sites.  All functions must be performed accurately and within time constraints, adhering to safety and health rules and regulations, and demonstrating safe work practices while performing the following functions are mandatory.

 

Essential Job Function

  • Interprets, follows and communicates NFPA 10, 12, 17, 17A, 96 and 2001 codes.
  • Communicates code requirements to customers to promote service of suppression systems.
  • Performs hydrostatic tests on various low and high pressure cylinders.
  • Installs, maintains and services range hood suppression systems per NFPA 96 and 17A code requirements
  • Installs, maintains and services Dry Chemical suppression systems per NFPA 17 code requirements
  • Installs, maintains and services CO2 suppression systems per NFPA 12 code requirements.
  • Possess the skills to communicate manufacturer specifications and applicable codes to customers so proper repairs/updates can be made to their systems.
  • Reacts to changes in productivity, and performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works while standing, kneeling, and bending in high, precarious places.  Occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.  Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level is moderate but can fluctuate depending on progress of construction. Personal protective equipment must be worn.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts heavy objects unassisted, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.  The employee lifts, pushes, pulls and carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.  The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.  The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.  The employee must have excellent stamina.

 Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Regular days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00 pm.  However, this position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

Two years applicable field experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

State Fire Extinguisher certification

Manufacturer Wet chem and Dry Chem suppression certificate

 

Preferred Education and Experience

High School Degree or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. 

 

Other Requirements

Must be able to obtain a TWIC card

Must hold a Valid driver’s license

Must have satisfactory pre-employment drug screen and physical
