Smyth Industries Manufacturing Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Manufacturing Client/Project Manager to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:

SCOPE: Under minimal supervision, the Manufacturing Client / Project Manager plays an essential leadership role in overseeing complex fabrication and construction projects from concept to completion. This hybrid position blends project management expertise with client management leadership, ensuring successful execution while driving continuous improvement, team development, and strategic alignment with company goals.

This role requires a high degree of independence, combining technical proficiency, strong communication, and business insight to deliver impactful results. The Manufacturing Client / Project Manager serves as the primary client liaison, leads cross-functional teams, mentors staff, and supports both business development and operational excellence across Smyth Industries.

Projects Management:

  • Lead multiple manufacturing projects from conception through completion, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget adherence.
  • Develop project plans, monitor progress, manage risks, and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Facilitate effective communication with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality control reviews to ensure deliverables meet specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate project proposals, kickoff meetings, and execution plans with clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor construction and fabrication activities for compliance with safety and project standards.
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions in a timely and professional manner with clients, internal teams, and project stakeholders.
  • Translate client feedback into actionable improvements and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project

Client Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring clear communication and alignment of expectations.
  • Conduct regular client check-ins and status updates to maintain transparency and trust.
  • Lead client kickoff meetings to establish scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Document and manage client requirements, change requests, and approvals.
  • Anticipate client needs and proactively address concerns or changes in scope.
  • Coordinate client site visits, inspections, and milestone reviews.
  • Facilitate resolution of client issues, including technical concerns, scheduling conflicts, or budget adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain strategic client account plans to support long-term growth and repeat business.
  • Mentor staff on effective client communication, including email etiquette, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate client feedback into actionable improvements.
  • Lead post-project client debriefs to gather insights and improve future engagements.
  • Promote a client-centric culture focused on responsiveness, accountability, and relationship-building. 

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Mentor and coach team members, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Support professional development through training, goal setting, and career growth initiatives.
  • Manage administrative functions for direct reports, including time tracking, PTO, and attendance.
  • Lead performance conversations and support staff in resolving work-related challenges.

Business Development & Marketing:

  • Participate in marketing and business development activities, including networking, proposal development, and client engagement.
  • Develop strategic client account plans to support long-term growth and repeat business.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services based on client needs and feedback.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, promoting diversity, inclusion, and company values.

Vendor & Supplier Coordination:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to support project success.
  • Align vendor capabilities with project needs, schedules, and quality standards through clear communication and coordination.
  • Monitor vendor performance and address issues related to delivery, quality, or compliance in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Support procurement efforts by participating in vendor selection, qualification, and cost control initiatives.
  • Maintain clear documentation of vendor communications, agreements, and performance metrics to support transparency and accountability.

Organizational:

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering methodologies, tools, and standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives and integrate client feedback into operational processes.
  • Promote collaboration and shared accountability across departments and project teams.
  • Track and report client satisfaction metrics as part of project closeout procedures. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, mechanical, or water infrastructure industries (10+ years preferred).
  • 5+ years of project management experience (10+ years preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred; equivalent technical and managerial experience accepted.
  • Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is a plus.
  • Arizona Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • A willingness to wear PPE and work around industrial equipment.
  • Proven experience in client-facing roles such as account management or business development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage expectations and resolve conflicts.
