Penn Line Tree Service, Inc. is seeking candidates for a Safety Advisor.  This position will cover all of Penn Line Tree Service’s multi-state geographical territory.

 

I.          Job Overview and General Purpose

Guided by Penn Line’s values, ethical principles, and safety objectives, the Safety Advisor is the field-based safety representative who supports a commitment to working safely and compliance with Penn Line procedures and safety culture, employee development and risk management. The Safety Advisor identifies non-compliance and deficiencies by performing crew, gear, and equipment inspections. The Safety Advisor provides coaching on the policies and procedural steps and the basis for those at the Crew level. The Safety Advisor reports the results of their inspections to Crew Foreman, Lead Foreman, General Foreman, Area Manager, Field Training Representatives and the President.

 

II.       Essential Functions

  1. Prevents events from happening, identifies at risk behaviors, identifies leading indicators, and values gaps by performing crew, equipment and gear observations and credential verification and communicating those observations through direct communication and on audit form
  2. Improving employee education and awareness concerning trends, values, policy, and procedural steps through Crew Level coaching and through development of newsletter letter
  3. Provides feedback and insight to Operations by sharing positive and negative feedback, trends and situations that are observed through regional safety calls, communications with Field Training Representatives, other Safety Advisors and creation of quarterly Scorecards.
  4. Enhance Penn Line’s work practices and procedures by participating on safety committees that influence policy and procedure development and promulgation, and participating in the development of root causes, corrective action development, including policy revisions, and fact gathering by participating in incident investigation processes, when appropriate.
  5. Assist Field Management in training of new and existing procedures and technology tools used within the Operation by reviewing with employees during site visits and during scheduled training Training may include compliance training, including ATSSA, CPR/FA, Defensive Driver and Forklift training, as permitted.
  6. Ensures adequate coverage of crews by analyzing inspections compared to active crew lists and completion and distribution of the Audit Submission Reports periodically.

III.     Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current valid driver’s
  • Education/Experience: A bachelor’s of science degree in a safety management or a minimum of 5 years’ field experience or equivalent.
  • Computer skills: Intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software; email and Internet browsers and other software.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of tree industry safety standards and requirements, operational methods, mechanized strategies, and best management practices.
  • Managerial Skills: Strong knowledge of conflict resolution, employee engagement and the ability to emulate and encourage the culture.
  • Other skills and abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to handle confidential information; organization skills; and attention to detail.
  • Judgement: Ability to reach logical conclusions based on established Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality. Recognizes when to elevate a decision or inform a superior about a decision.
  • Planning and Organizing: Ability to plan and organize one’s own activities, including effective time management.
  • Networking and Relationship Building: Has the ability to development and maintain professional relationships both within and outside of the Company to enhance the ability to effectively perform the essential job functions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to process change management initiatives
  • Drive: Demonstrates personal accomplishment and a desire to excel; sets and maintains ambitious standards for achievement and makes things happen. Takes ownership of position. Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

IV.     Reporting and Key Relationships

  • Reporting Relationship. The employee shall report to the Penn Line Tree Service, Inc. President. The employee is expected to work closely with a variety of departments and Penn Line staff on all relevant matters affecting Penn Line Tree Service, or otherwise connected with the discharge of the employee’s duties.
  • Key Relationships include customer contacts, the various department managers and key contacts (Equipment Center Staff, Human Resources Staff, Tree Division administration personnel), Field Safety Training Staff and embedded staff.
